Barrell Bourbon Cask Finish Series: Tale of Two Islands Review
In 2018, Barrell Craft Spirits produced Tale of Two Islands Rum. It was a Jamaican rum matured in peated Islay single malt barrels. Those empty casks have been used to finish this blend of straight bourbons.
Proof: 118.22°
The blend:
Indiana bourbons aged 5,6, & 9 years
Maryland bourbons aged 5 & 6 years
Derived mashbill: 73% corn, 23% rye, 4% malted barley
Color 👁️: Mahogany
Nose 👃: Melon. Buttered toffee. Werther’s Originals. Marshmallow. Ripe banana.
Palate 👅: Coconut. Honey. Black pepper. Melon. Peat. Black walnut. Ripe banana. Oily mouthfeel.
Finish 🏁: Black pepper. Honey. Ripe banana. Lemon zest. Long in length.
Overall thoughts? I love it! It’s fun and unique. Character from both the peat and funky rum show up… and you want to experience this.
